Wednesday July 8th Day 73 Current City...Ormond Beach, FL
Hello DestinyMaker's,
Today's blog sponsored by the Days Inn in Ormond Beach
The athlete in me knows there is nothing left. I now have to temper my excitement of wanting to see Nyle and my current capabilities to get home. My legs ache. My shoulders and neck from the backpack are tight and sore. My hips from all of what I've done need a rest. The will to go on is fueled by the love in my heart for my son and all the wonderful messages of support I receive. With only 252 miles from Nyle (direct route) I will need extra focus as I have been dreaming about this moment, dreaming is good, not while your biking.
I had it all today. Weather and trucks provided enough moments of fear today. That saying that one has nothing to fear but fear itself, might have been true for some, not for me. When a truck is passing you and there is no shoulder and on coming traffic one get's scared. When a storm comes on so quick and there is no building to hide one get's scared. When lightning is firing bolts everywhere one has fear. Even yesterday when I had to take cover in woods a Coyote comes out of no where and adds fear.
What I also had today was people remembering me from news reports or eating in the diner. I had many waving from their cars today so I figured radio stations must be picking up on Kathy's news releases she sent. There is nothing like being remembered or noticed. As long as it's for good things. I have created destinymaker for the sole purpose of doing something good for Nyle and it's grown to touch people all over the world. There is nothing like being recognized for your efforts to make a difference.
I was up early and ready. The weather was delaying me. I was wanting to leave when it was dark but couldn't with all the rain. I don't mind riding in the rain when it's light and no lightning. Not the case now, it's dark and the sound of thunder tells me lots of lightning in the area. Well I was packed and prepared to go.
Well first light I ventured out to eat and go. I did just that under a lite, refreshing rain. Well that didn't last long. Lite rain turned heavy. Morning went to night. Well it was so dark it seemed like night. I stopped a few times for cover but once your soaked it didn't matter. Just had to laugh when a vehicle would drive past and soak me with water. As long as my electronics don't get wet all is ok. I have them all wrapped in plastic. I've learned over the years that plastic and toilet paper a must for long distance biking.
Nyle who stayed home from camp again is feeling much better. Just a cold but no fever. He knows I am coming home Saturday but sure do wish I could surprise him Friday afternoon at camp. Hmm there is a thought. Just don't think I have 250 miles on 2 days, without serious jeopardy to the body. Plus I have already announced final mile. I told him currently under 300 miles when we spoke. He is feeling it, but controls his emotions much better then me. He does of course until I am home. Then it all comes out.
I was on route 20. This road reminded my of 2006 and my last day cutting across the State. A 2 lane road with speed limits at 60 and no shoulder. A scary road for cars let alone a cyclist. I wondered why I have not seen anyone but me on a bike. I just kept pedaling until it opened up with a shoulder. That part thought signaled the many miles between me and Route 1. I wanted that road so bad. It's the road I've come home on the last 2 years.
I was thinking about Saturday. I need to call Aventura Police for escort to final mile. I will send and I am sure Kathy will as well press releases for coverage in Miami. They have done many pieces on me but recently none. I've been told they have covered the story before. I say that each year the story might not change but the experiences have.
Finally Route 1 south. I will ride this road the next 252 miles. I stopped in a diner where I've eating the last 3 years. I guess it's tradition now. Speaking of food I can't wait to have my favorite dish of Egg Plant Parmesan at Pizza Roma.
I am wet, tired. Full of pride. Enough to get me home, yes. Once home much will need to get done. I will decompress for 2 days. I then will either stay with a friend and their Family until August 1st. My other option is to rent from another friend but it would be sharing his apartment. Not sure either situation is great for Nyle. Each place is great what I mean for Nyle is that I should have my own place. Even though it's rented he gets to call it his. That is really important for him, us!!! I am home Saturday. Sunday I will see apartments. I would like to move in Monday but August 1st would be good. After the apartment situation I need to get back on the tennis courts asap. I am hoping the situation at Turnburry is till available. I will also get my clients going again. The good thing about those 2 living situations are they have tennis courts. A big consideration. So it's get home, find or decide where to live, get back to tennis court and work. Then there is DestinyMaker. I will plan 2010.

"enjoy the extra rest if you can. I know that your adrenaline is making you anxious since you are so close to Nyle. Be safe. That's the most important thing. I'm so proud of you for making it all the way (because I know you're going to). Wish I could be there Saturday to see you at the end of this incredible journey."Carrie writes:
Hi, Glenn my name is Carrie. We met at the Fleetwood Diner in High Springs, FL. I was just looking into your web page as I told you I would and I must say , I am so proud that there are still people who care in this world ... You are an awesome person and a very kind soul. If you ever need anything along your journeys look me up and I'd be more than happy to help any way I can. What your doing is very kind and generous.
